This was a blog created to let Warhammer fans everywhere listen along to an adventure through the famous Enemy Within campaign. The recorded sessions make a great resource for a GM who wants inspiration, for fans of Warhammer who want to re-live the feeling of playing, or anyone with extra time who just wants some entertainment!

As one of our fans said, "It's like an epic audio novel, only better!"

So you want to get started? Great!
Start by reading the introduction and character backgrounds (if you have time), or just jump into Session 1. Then using the links at the right you can continue to follow along as the group travels through the Warhammer world racking up insanities, corruptions, and experience -- all while saving the Empire from certain catastrophe.

Finally, there are some great extras you can unlock by donating!

Package of Handouts and GM Commentary
This is a large package that includes all the handouts and battle maps we've used, copies of the character sheets, a map of the Empire, the custom critical charts that we used, and the ever-so-fun "rules for pub games." It contains the "black book" of house rules and the custom weapons/armor that we use. Perhaps best of all, it includes GM commentary on each session, some final Enemy Within thoughts, and my personal GM tips -- making it a very nice resource for an aspiring GM. Altogether it is nearly 100 pages long!

Bonus Audio Recordings
Character Generation: This 1 hour 30 minute recording provides background on the Warhammer world, records the players deciding on the "role" they wish to choose, rolling up careers and stats, and a private session with each player where we discuss personality and motivation.

Epilogue: This 35 minute recording goes over the events of the Storm of Chaos which befalls the Empire and each player's actions during that time. Then we reminisce about the campaign as a whole and discuss our favorite moments. Finally each player tells what their character does at the conclusion of the events and what their legacy will be. A must have!

Shadowrun Sessions and Future Extras
During a break in the Warhammer action the group played in a separate compaign in the Shadowrun universe. Their cyberpunk sci/fi adventures were interesting, fun, and often hilarious! Donate at this level and you'll get access to all 9 sessions. Also, since this is the top level, I'll grant you "gold member status" -- meaning you'll have access to all future extras! The adventurers journey back to Altdorf to unite Ghal Maraz with Sigmar's crown, but find that they have been tracked and must battle the Arch Lumin once and for all. They also discover what has ocurred in the Empire while they have been away -- learning how Sigmar's hammer is needed to battle the biggest threat that the Empire has seen in the last thousand years.

Session 41 - The Penultimate Battle

Having passed through fire, blood, and madness; having lost their health, their sanity, and their very humanity; having defeated countless foes, unraveled dark conspiracies, and saved cities and towns throughout the Empire; now, at last, all that stands between the heroes and the legendary Hammer of Sigmar is a monstrous blood-soaked demon from the deepest pit of Hell. Let the battle begin!

Session 40 - Black Water Trail

Having escaped the dwarven ruins with the location of Sigmar's Hammer, the adventurers must now make the perilous journey into the heart of the Black Mountains. Along the trail, they face the fearsome denizens of the mountains: gigantic wolves, fearsome trolls, strange, white-furred abominations, and a tribe of pointy-eared pacifists who may turn out to be the biggest danger of them all.

Session 39 - The Ruins Beneath the Mountain

Thousands of years ago, the mighty Sigmar passed though the Black Mountains and founded a small dwarven settlement beneath the mountainous Cragmere. The settlement fell to orcs and goblins, who in turn abandoned it. For decades, it sat forsaken, and strange creatures multiplied in the lightless depths. Now a group of battle-weary adventurers, cut off from all hope of resupply or outside aid, must overcome the darkness to save the Empire.

Session 37-38 - Where Eagles Dare

Shortly before the storm of chaos, a crack team of adventurers infiltrate a heavily guarded orc stronghold in the ruins of an ancient dwarven fortress, high in the Black Mountains. Their mission: sneak into the fortress and obtain highly valuable information pertaining to the location of Sigmar's Hammer, and the salvation of the Empire.

Session 36 - The Comet

Session 34 - Back on the River

It was just another voyage for the intrepid heroes: filled with gambling, brawling, sandbars, merchants, strange birds, and a mysterious craft that vanished whenever it was seen. But high on a bluff overlooking the river, a desperate man armed with powerful weapons prepares to send the adventurers and their ship to the bottom of the muddy water.

Session 33 - Powder Keg

With the death of both the emperor and his heir, the city of Altdorf is ready to explode into civil war, shortly followed by the rest of the Empire. The adventurers desperately try to gain control of the situation, but before long they realize that may be impossible. For the end time is approaching, foretold in the prophecies of old, and the Empire's only hope now lies in a desperate quest far from civilization.

Session 32 -The Truth of a Vision

Session 30 - Familiar Faces

The adventurers arrive in Altdorf and learn some shocking news: The Emperor is dead. Flush with cash and fresh off their latest victory, they decide to forget their troubles for a while and carouse with the locals, but before long they meet up with living reminders that chaos is not far away.

Session 29 - Warpstone

Weary, wounded, and desperate, the adventurers are at long last in sight of their goal: the chaotic warpstone, focal point of the battle and an artifact of enormous power. Standing in their way is a powerful sorceress and her faithful monster. Will the heroes free the land of evil and save the day? Or will they at long last succumb to the overwhelming forces arrayed against them?

Session 28 - Heart of Darkness

The adventurers race against time to claim the chaotic warpstone and prevent it from falling into the hands of the terrifying rat men. But when they enter the corrupted temple, an evil fouler than anything they have yet seen threatens to pull them into the very depths of hell.

Session 27 - Battle of Witgendorf

The storm breaks over the castle as the brave freedom fighters charge to assault the gatehouse. Arrows, spells, swords, and blood fly in all directions in the ensuing melee. Can the adventurers capture the gatehouse before reinforcements arrive from the front of the keep? And what is the meaning of the panicked trumpet blasts from the villagers in front of the castle?

Session 26 - Approaching Thunder

The group completes their scouting expedition, and puts together a plan to attack the castle. But dark clouds are gathering on the horizon and it is clear that a great storm is about to envelop Castle Witgenstein.

Session 24-25 - Light in Dark Places

The adventures finally confront Etelka after a long chase, but victory brings small comfort as they learn that the evil secret society is close to achieving its goal. But first, they must trek through the chaos-infested caverns below Marguerite's castle to find a way to save the village of Witgendorf.

Session 23 - Sympathy for the Rebellion

The adventurers meet with the rebel leaders and cut a deal. They are joined by a skilled tracker and head out to hunt down Etelka once and for all. But the haunted forest is a dangerous place, and the PCs soon find themselves entangled with the sinister agents of the evil Marguerite.

Session 22 - Where Chaos Reigns

The adventurers arrive at the city of Witgendorf to find a town heavy under the sway of chaos. Mutants roam the streets and beastmen haunt the forests. But friends are found in unlikely places, and within the town the adventurers discover a mysterious power nearly as old as Sigmar himself.

Session 21 - Swamp Pirates

The adventurers celebrate leaving the Barren Hills behind them by getting punch-drunk at Corrobreth's cottage. Then during the trip back to Marshbad another boat appears out of the mist, and its crew's intentions are not good.

Session 20 - Message From Beyond

The adventurers reach the spot where the meteor fell only to discover it has long since been taken away. As they are determining what to do next, an unearthly messenger appears with a tale of treachery and murder. But before they can follow his advice, they are attacked by foes that "do not exist."

Session 18 - A Warehouse in Altdorf

After bandaging their wounds, the adventurers explore the what seems like an ancient observatory. The clues they find there lead them south, and the group decides to look into some unfinished business in Altdorf on the way there.

Session 16 - When Words Fail

Session 13 - Confrontation in Grissenwald

A bar brawl brings the adventurers into a dispute between the residents of Grissenwald and small dwarven community camped just outside of town. Some investigation leads them to believe that the dwarves are not the cause of the town's problems, and a full scale confrontation with the real threat ensues.

Session 12 - Sailing to Grissenwald

The group stops in Altdorf to pick up supplies and explore new careers, then travels south to Grissenwald.

This session will probably make for poor listening, since it mostly consisted of learning the new sailing/trading rules, changing careers, and buying supplies. But I guess every once in a while a session like this is necessary. Fear not, the pace will quicken once the party reaches Grissenwald!

Session 11 - River Battle

It doesn't take the adventurers long to find trouble after they leave Bogenhaffen. An encounter with an injured sailor leads to a pitched battle as beastmen spring out of hiding to ambush the party on the river.

Session 9 - Assault on the House of Teugan

The adventurers conclude that the only way to unmask the conspiracy is to gather evidence from the heart of the enemy's camp. But during the infiltration, they discover an opportunity too good to pass up. Can they achieve their goal and escape with their lives, and more importantly their fate points, intact?

Session 8 - Conspiracy in Bogenhaffen

As the adventurers investigate the death of the goblin, they find that the man who gave them the task has been struck by a deadly poison. Soon it becomes clear that the high-ranking members of Bogenhaffen are deeply involved in the evil sorcery taking place under the city.

Session 7 - A Demon Most Foul

In the sewers the adventurers find a eerie room with rings of copper laid on the floor. After they enter, the darkness coalesces into a hound from the fiery depths of hell.

Session 6 - The Shaffenfest

The adventurers take in the Shaffenfest, including a joust and a wrestling competition. While attending Doctor Malthusius' Zoocopia, a three-legged goblin escapes from the show and the group tracks it into the sewers.

Awakened by the smell of smoke while sleeping on the riverboat, it seems that the man following them had ill intentions. After dealing with this, the group travels on and arrives in Bogenhaffen.

Session 4 - Events in Altdorf

The group arrives in the capital of the Empire and they meet up with Alexander, an old Kislevian friend of Brutus'. Despite it being their first time there, it seems that they already have other "friends" in the city.

Session 3 - Encounter on the Road

On the road to Altdorf the adventurers encounter a group of mutants who have brutally murdered the passengers of another coach. One of the bodies bears a strange resemblance to Brutus.

Session 2 - The Coach and Horses Inn

The players arrive at the Coach and Horses Inn and quickly realize that the stagecoach they plan to take is going to be quite packed. On the road to Altdorf Zed encounters his long lost brother -- though he is not quite the same.

This lead-in session is an adaptation of the first part of the Oldenhaller Contract, and was designed to get the players properly introduced to the Warhammer world before starting the actual events of The Enemy Within.

Character generation

The players chose from basic "roles" and each "role" had a group of starting careers to roll on. This was done to mimic the pre-generated characters from the Enemy Within campaign book.

We recorded the character generation session, and it is about 1 hour and 30 minutes long. If you are interested in listening to it, you'll have to make a donation, see the post on donations for more information.

Introduction

This is a blog created for the players of a Seattle-area Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay campaign, and for anyone who wants to follow along. Each week I will post the audio recording of that week's session. The players and anyone following the campaign are encouraged to have a listen and post a comment. I hope you enjoy it.

We are using WFRP Ver. 2, but I'm converting various rules from Version 1 along with some of my old house rules that I used to use.

So what is Warhammer?
There are worlds where courageous heroes who stand for all that is good and righteous watch over populaces of decent folk who seek to enrich their own lives and better those of the people around them.

This isn’t one of those worlds.

The Old World is one of pain, treachery, disease, and malice. Many of the Empire’s ‘heroes’ are dangerous rogues and blood spattered butchers. The people of the Old World are superstitious and insular, swift to believe the worst of others and slow to trust, often with good reason. Corruption is the rule, honesty the exception. Those few bright souls who still manage to accomplish heroic tasks frequently have to act under cover of darkness, lest they be accused of being in league with the very forces they try to combat.
